At our wellness center, we have had the privilege of helping thousands of patients over the years with our medical weight loss protocol. One individual in particular is a young man named Ruben. Ruben is in his early 30s, and has not only struggled with his weight, indulging in nutritionless snack foods but also has developed a health issue that resulted from some of these dysfunctional lifestyle activities.
Over the last year, he was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Much of it tied to the overproduction of insulin, which had been taxing on the function of his liver. I might mention that Ruben‘s father is a very well-established primary-care physician here in San Diego.
As is often the case with our family members, he got the most resistance from trying to guide his own son. So, here’s how Ruben’s journey began at our clinic. His father said to him… “This is going to be a battle, that may very well greatly reduce your longevity. If not dealt with soon, you’re likely raising the odds of dying prematurely. I want you to go and visit this clinic that I know of that does good work with healthy weight loss.”
Ruben was reluctant at first but at his father’s insistence (and recounting of success stories) he called our clinic and made his first appointment for an initial consult. It was not easy, with all the unknowns that were still looming for Ruben. I’m happy to tell you, though, that in the end, he lost 114 pounds on our medical weight loss program, IdealProtein.
It took Ruben 7 months to achieve that healthy goal, which he reached in amazing fashion. He averaged 4 pounds per week of fat loss. And, with as comprehensive as the maintenance phase of the plan is, he has switched to a healthier lifestyle and has been able to hold onto his results and stay within 5 pounds of the goal he chose, achieved, and has sustained.
Ruben says he’s feeling “More confident, energized, and entirely more positive” with the new body he has created. We are all so proud of Ruben! We absolutely love helping people reverse the obesity issues that have loomed with way too great a frequency in the American culture.
